When starting a business, most people think that they need to think of an idea that has never been done before and will blow the world out of the water. They think that unless you have something that has never been done before you will not be successful. I am telling you that this is not the case.
The world is a really big place and there is room for competition and more of what already exists. If you start a business from scratch based on an idea that has never been done before, you may be very successful but you also may fail miserably. Maybe the world is not ready for your idea and maybe they just don’t need it or understand it.
You will not find a McDonald’s franchise open up and go out of business. There are over 31,000 successful McDonald’s operated restaurants in the world and if you opened another in a decent location, you’ll have a successful business of your own as well. McDonald’s has a system that works and will continue to work at each new location. My only question is how they kept track of the 99 billion people served.
It is similar when starting a blog such as this one. When I decided to start this blog, I didn’t try and come up with all sorts of features on the site that have never been heard of. I looked at other blogs and tried to figure out what works for other people and what I can use for my own site. Recently I added a few new features that you can take advantage of. My favorite is the related articles that now appear at the bottom of each article I post. If people find an article or topic interesting, it allows them to read more about that topic. My site is fairly new so I don’t have stock piles of articles on each subject yet but I will get there.
New ideas are great and I encourage you to keep coming up with great ideas but what I am saying is that with some hard work, you can get lucky and be successful by following a formula that has already been proven to work.
I am a typical person more or less that has always tried to get away with doing the absolute minimum to get by. In school, I did my assignments last minute, I barely passes some of my tests, I crammed for everything and didn't care about retaining any information. I always wanted to be successful and get lucky but my problem was that I thought that luck and chance were synonymous. One day, all that changed when i found out that there was more to "Luck". I learned that it was possible to make your own luck and that people that were "lucky", all had very similar characteristics. I made a conscious decision to become one of those lucky people and the world started to open up. It didn't happen overnight and I'm still not there yet but at least I know what to look for and what to do. Recognizing the opportunities to get lucky is only the beginning of the battle. Now I have to train myself to jump on every opportunity and one day be truly "lucky".
